Her passing marks the loss of a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and faithful community member whose life was defined by her devotion to God, her love for family and her commitment to helping others.

Born on December 4, 1952, in Dowagiac, Michigan, Sherry was the daughter of Delbert Hartsell and Virginia (Garman) Gaines. Throughout her life, she built meaningful relationships and found purpose in serving the people around her. Those who knew her will remember her for her faith, kindness and willingness to give her time to others.

A Marriage Built on Love and Commitment

One of the most important parts of Sherry’s life was her marriage to Charles “Charlie” Fry. The couple married in Wauseon on October 25, 1980, and shared 46 years together. Their marriage was a lasting partnership built on love and commitment, and Charlie remained by her side through her final moments.

Family was at the center of Sherry’s world. She treasured her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, finding great happiness in the time they spent together. Her love extended across generations, including her great-great-grandson, who was among the youngest members of the family she cherished.

A Life Guided by Faith and Service

Sherry’s Christian faith played a central role in shaping her life and the way she treated others. At Haven Heights Baptist Church, she was an active and dedicated member, serving faithfully as Church Clerk and Sunday School Teacher.

Her involvement was more than a commitment to church responsibilities. It reflected her desire to support her congregation, encourage others and put her beliefs into practice through everyday acts of service. Her church family and friends were an important part of her life, and the relationships she built there remained close to her heart.

Sherry also made a lasting contribution to the wider Wauseon community through her work at the Fulton County Senior Center. Before retiring, she served as Activities Director, helping organize activities and create opportunities for local seniors to connect and enjoy time together.

She also delivered meals and valued the personal connections that came with serving older residents. Her work allowed her to make a difference in people’s daily lives, bringing companionship and care to those she encountered.
